Light Conductivity

Light Transmittance in light-conductive glass blocks can be adjusted by an interior prismatic structure to direct the light towards the ceiling. The ceiling should be bright and unstructured. The blocks have an imprint engraved in the tops to indicate the proper installation position.

Transparence / Translucence

- degree of Glass Block transparency on walls can be adjusted by varying the design of the individual Glass Blocks. Whatever the requirements, virtually any degree of visability protection is possible.;
- from clear view Glass Blocks with plane parallel surfaces providing transparency from the inside without any major distortions.
- glass blocks which only produce a diffuse light and do not permit any form of recognition.
- glass blocks walls have a high translucence level. The vertically incidental light translucence of transparent glass blocks can reach a level of appproximately 80%, depending on the blocks pattern. This corrisponds to the characteristics of normal double-glazed thermo pane windows.
- the translucence of coloured glass blocks depends on the intensity of the colouration.

Thermal Insulation

- glass block walls help reduce the overheating of interior spaces caused by the penetration of sunlight during the summer months, also permitting the low lying winter sun to make a maximum contribution to room heating.
- the thermal conductivity coefficient of Glass Block windows is comparable with this property in normal thermo pane double glazing.

Sound Insulation

- Glass Block constructions are ideal solutions wherever a high degree of insulation against airborne noise is required.
- Single-skin Glass Block constructions cover the requirements up to sound insulation class 5:RW (45 - 49 db suitable for glass block windows/walls).

Fire Protection

Special installation methods are required to achieve a fire rating of /60/15 or /60/30.

Protection to Property

Glass Block walls correspond with very high security standards. Typical applications include:

- cellular windows
- building entrances
- light walls in warehouses, manufacturing facilities or workshops
- security zones in industrial plants, airports, etc.
- computer centres and
- banks
